Our Faith

IDMC is a church under the lordship of Jesus Christ

We are committed to contending for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3). In unity with the historic Christian church, we believe and confess the Apostles’, Nicene and Chalcedonian Creeds as accurate representations of Scripture’s teaching. In addition to these historic formulations, we are situated within the evangelical, reformed and charismatic traditions.

The basic doctrines within IDMC Statement of Faith represent what we believe to be core elements of biblical teaching. We expect all members of IDMC to affirm these doctrines.

1. The unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead. Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Corinthians 12:4-6; Ephesians 4:4-6.

2. The sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption, and final judgment. Acts 17:24; John 14:26; Romans 5:6-11; 2 Corinthians 5:10.

3. The divine inspiration and infallibility of Holy Scripture, as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17.

4. The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall, rendering man subject to God’s wrath and condemnation. Romans 3:23; 1:18; 5:12-13.

5. Redemption from the guilt, penalty, and power of sin only through the sacrificial death, as our Representative and Substitute, of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. Matthew 26:28; John 1:14; Matthew 1:18-22.

6. The bodily and spiritual resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and subsequently the resurrection of all believers to eternal life. 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4, 20-22.

7. The necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to make the death of Christ effective to the individual sinner, granting him or her repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. John 16:8; Titus 3:5-7

8. The indwelling and work of the Holy Spirit in the believer. John 14:7; 1 Corinthians 6:19.

9. The one holy universal church, which is the body of Christ, and to which all true believers belong. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; 12:12-13; Ephesians 4:11-13.

10. The expectation of the personal, bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 1:11.

11. The Sacraments instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ are:
a. Baptism
i. Water Baptism: The Church believes that those who have the assurance of salvation should be baptised by a single immersion in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12; 2:38; 8:36-38; Romans 6:3-4.

ii. This Church believes that water baptism does not confer salvation.

iii. Baptism in the Holy Spirit: The church believes that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is the bestowing of the believer with the power to be an effective witness for Christ. Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4, 5, 8; Acts 2:1-4; 8:15-19; 11:14-17; 19:1-7.

iv. Infants and children of Christian parents may be dedicated.

b. Holy Communion
The Church follows the teachings of the Holy Scriptures in observing the Lord’s Supper. Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.

12. Gifts: The Church believes in the present-day operation of the nine supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit, as recorded in 1 Corinthians 12. The Church also believes in the ministry gifts of Christ, as recorded in Ephesians 4:11-13.
